Renovation of the Month

If you haven't seen the May issue of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles its not too late but I am going to give you a sneak peak.  Featured in this month's issue is the kitchen renovation completed by Ryan Duffey, of J Ryan Duffey Architect, Nancy Duffey of Scout For The Home Interiors and Cameron Thurman of Phoenix Millworks for a Brookhaven family.

A view of the dining area in the kitchen/keeping room.  The iron doors were fabricated by Dave Quinlan, the walls throughout are stucco applied by Vali Lazar.

All wood in the kitchen is lime washed including the kitchen island with a marble top, the same marble was used for the counter tops.  The lime wash is from ROMA.

I was able to visit the project myself when it was completed and want to share some of the photos I took.  I am not a professional photographer so my images will look nothing like Lauren Rubenstein's in the above article.

A close up of the kitchen island.

A close up of the marble back splash and the stucco range hood.

The view looking from the kitchen to the dining and keeping room.

You can really see the texture of the stucco walls and ceiling.

View to kitchen from keeping room.  The arched opening leads to the wet bar and the living area.  Straight ahead behind the closed pocket doors is a spacious mudroom and ladies office.

Another view through the arched opening.  The use of iron windows and doors throughout provides plenty of natural light.

The living area off the kitchen/dining keeping room.

Wooden beams were added for interest, they were sourced from Willis Everett at Vintage Lumber in Gay, Georgia.

Detail of stucco and wooden beam.

The wet bar connects the living room and the dining room.

The builder on this project was Mike Hammersmith.

Stay tuned for the next installment where I talk more about the extensive work performed by Cameron Thurman of Phoenix Millworks.

Thanks for reading!!

For the past two days I have been @......

I just attended the Design Bloggers Conference 2014 here in Atlanta, which was filled with the latest information about blogging AND social media. I attended not as a blogger, but as a social media consultant (I created my own category)with the intention of learning more about the impact social media is making on the design world and how to make it work to your advantage. The focus, make no mistake, was blogging.

Over 400 people attended; the grand ballroom at the Hyatt was full. There were interior designers, furniture designers, fabric designers, and the majority of them were bloggers. Traditional Home and Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles sponsored portions of the conference so there were editors and freelance writers there as well.

To blog or not to blog seemed to be the underlying question. Jennifer Boles, Tobi Fairley and Paloma Contreras were just a few of the established bloggers who participated in panel discussions and were there to answer questions afterwards. The answers to this question, and advice provided, varied a little but the bottom line was quality over quantity.

A few presenters mentioned blogosphere etiquette. Have you written a new post where no one comments, likes or shares? Speaking from experience, it makes you feel as if your blog isn't being read and it is a little discouraging. One thing I learned about these bloggers, as influential or established as they may be, they still appreciate your comments. Think of it as if you are visiting someone's home, the least you can do is say thank you. If you take the time to visit someone's blog, it would be nice if you “like” it or say “nice post”. After all, aren't we all monitoring how many followers, likes, shares, friends, pins, favorites, reviews we receive? If you are a blogger and you read other peoples blogs, it increases your visibility if you make comments and those bloggers are more likely to find you and follow your blog.

If you would like to learn more about any of the above, I would be happy to share. Let me know when you want to meet!

Today I was @.......

.......ROMA (formerly San Marco USA)

Have you seen the February issue of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles?  Run don't walk!!!  It is full of great rooms and designers.

Here is Beth Webb's room with walls covered in a custom finish by ROMA (formerly San Marco USA).

You should really check out their paints and other surface coverings, you can get any type of finish you desire and the bonus is that the products are healthier than any other paint product on the market.  I promise!

Here is the upstairs den by Chris Holt of Holt Interiors.

I wish that were my upstairs den!

I also wanted to say congrats to several folks for being chosen Best of Houzz 2013!

I am lucky to know such talented people!!

Have a great Wednesday!

Today I am @......

.....my house, getting caught up after being out of town for the weekend.

I think today's post should be called Shout Out Monday.  Too many people to recognize today!!

The most overdue would be a kudos to my good friends and Architects, Rodolfo Castro and Laura Depree who with the help of Interior Designers, Ed Belding and Beth Webb, created two beautiful homes that were featured in the latest Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles.  Here are the two articles:

Charles Calhoun Fireplace Surround, Skyler Morgan wide walnut planked wall

Charles Calhoun and Skyler Morgan collaborated on this bed!

Here is the home designed by Laura Depree and Beth Webb.  John Howard designed the beautiful Landscape.

 Well Done!!!

Have a wonderful Week!
